Carolina Creek Internship

A year-long program for post-grad students who are looking for a place to get hands-on experience with camp programming, guest services, communications, creative and marketing.

This is not a GAP year program but is intended to provide work experience for post-graduates who desire to explore ministry careers related to Christian camping, hospitality, children’s or youth ministry, culinary fields, marketing or creative media ministries. Supervisors construct an individualized curriculum for each Participant that will help them accomplish their own professional goals.

Requirements

The Intern Program Participant at Carolina Creek Christian Camps (CCCC) must be a follower of Jesus Christ, still maturing and looking to grow in developing his/her faith. He/she must be fully in accord with CCCC’s mission statement, statement of beliefs, and community guidelines. He/she must be committed to be an active member of the intern community, participating in all assignments directed by the Intern Director.

All Participants are required to commit to the entire twelve-month program. Summer assignments will be determined in collaboration with each Intern as their professional skills and objectives are discovered throughout the year.

Expectations for particular departmental assignments are listed in the job description for each.

Primary Responsibilities

Participants in the Intern Program serve on our ministry team, as needed, whenever guests are present. This includes most, but not all weekends throughout the year, as well as some midweek groups. Direct ministry assignments will vary depending upon the giftings and abilities of each individual, but all participants should expect to be deployed as needed to accomplish our mission.

  • Facilitate Carolina Creek adventure/recreation, aquatics, and target sports in a safe manner for all guests.
  • Lead a small group of campers in Bible Studies, activities, and other program elements for midweek and weekend programs.
  • Assist the Kitchen Staff in the serving and cleaning of meals for all guest groups.
  • Assist the Guest Services team in the cleaning of dining halls, common areas, and cabins.
  • Assist the Grounds Team in beautifying and maintaining our grounds.
  • Participate in meetings and complete assignments received by Intern Director.

Each intern will be assigned to a specific team at Carolina Creek. They will be able to apply the leadership principles they are learning from the Intern program in the daily work at Carolina Creek. This department will be secondary to the primary responsibility of leading the program and guest groups experience.

Programming

  • Assist in the maintenance, cleaning, and installation of all Carolina Creek adventure/recreation and aquatics activities.
  • Assist in the planning of all program events including programmed weekends, midweeks, mid-winter, and summer programs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Specific skills related to adventure, recreation, and aquatic activities. Will need to be able to become ACCT Level 1 Certified and/or Red Cross Lifeguard Certified.
  • Ability to lead a small group in Bible Study
  • Must be flexible with an ability to adjust in problem-solving situations
  • Must possess strong interpersonal relations skills

Guest Services

  • Assist in the coordination with guest groups and staff to develop a schedule of adventure/recreation, meals, and other activities.
  • Assist the Guest Services Team in the logistics of arrival and departure of guest groups.
  • Assist in the implementation and execution of improvements to the guest experience.
  • Interface with pastors and group leaders to understand and help accomplish their objectives for their group.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must possess strong interpersonal relations skills, being able to handle conversations with pastors, leaders, and parents.
  • Must be flexible with an ability to adjust and problem solve in challenging situations
  • Specific skills related to adventure, recreation, and aquatic activities. Will need to be able to become ACCT Level 1 Certified and/or Red Cross Lifeguard Certified.
  • Ability to lead a small group in Bible Study

Creative Services

  • Assist the Creative Services team with project coordination, development initiatives, the creation of collateral used for staff recruiting, summer program promotion, donor development, camper acquisition, web content and more.
  • Assist in the development of the marketing efforts including dashboards data, digital communication, video’s, photograph, written materials, website content, program environments, social media, and multimedia.
  • Work with other departments to develop creative collateral to support their inititives and programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be flexible with an ability to adjust and problem solve in challenging situations
  • Must possess knowledge of G-Suite, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Must be able to assist in the facilitation of Carolina Creek activities including high ropes, aquatics, target sports and camp facility prep and cleaning.

Food Service

  • Prepare everything necessary for meals including the cooking, baking, and frying of all food. Prepare and maintain salad bars, condiment bars, and beverage stations.
  • Assist the Food Service team in the cleanliness of the kitchens including the cleanup after meals.
  • Assist the Food Service team with the ordering and preparing of menus for all food service needs at Carolina Creek.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be capable of using knives, slicing equipment, and other food preparation equipment.
  • Must be flexible with an ability to adjust in problem-solving situations
  • Must possess strong interpersonal relations skills
  • Must possess mobility and flexibility to work long shifts
